ANVA Selects Veryant to Lower COBOL Costs and Modernize Applications

October 11, 2010 - Veryant, the COBOL and Java technology innovator, today announced that ANVA, a leading Dutch insurance software provider, has selected the isCOBOL Application Platform Suite from Veryant to lower COBOL licensing fees, enhance the efficiency of its development team, and bring added value to its customer base.

ANVA has been providing flexible and easy-to-use modular software solutions to the insurance industry for three decades. The company’s policy administration and power of attorney applications had been deployed using ACUCOBOL-GT. Looking for a platform that would facilitate ongoing application modernization activities, and responsive vendor support, ANVA has decided to migrate from Micro Focus ACUCOBOL-GT to isCOBOL.

Before ANVA could move to isCOBOL, Veryant had to add support for PostgreSQL, a popular open source database. With a 100% Java-based architecture, Veryant’s development team can rapidly introduce new features and enhancements into its product lines. Once PostgreSQL support was added to isCOBOL, ANVA was able to smoothly transition off the ACUCOBOL-GT platform.

"Besides the technical advances Veryant provides, we will reduce costs on our internal development and test licenses. Our customers will also be able to reduce costs, as well. For example, they won’t have to buy new licenses after changing operating systems," van Dijk said.

ANVA is currently moving 750 customer sites to the isCOBOL platform. More than 9,000 end users depend on the company’s product offerings, so ANVA is beginning a phased approach to the migration. In addition to better meeting the needs of its existing customers, ANVA anticipates the flexible nature of the isCOBOL offering will help it attract new clients.
