Question Title To use encryption do I need to set the c-tree server config variable before I run ISMIGRATE?
Question:

Vision files can be encrypted directly. If I am reading correctly, ctree files are encrypted when the server configuration file contains a specific entry and this applies equally to all files. In order to encrypt files, do I need to have the variable set in the config file before migration, or would I need to redo the migration process?

Answer:

Starting from C-tree 8.27.161 you can encrypt C-tree files with the following configuration variables set in ctree.conf:

CY_FILE_FILENAME

This entry creates the file FILENAME with encryption activated.

Syntax

CY_FILE_FILENAME
  • FILENAME is the physical name defined in the FILE-CONTROL Paragraph of the INPUT-OUTPUT Section.

CY_PATH

This entry creates one or more encrypted files and verifies that the filename has a specific path.

Syntax

CY_PATH=PATHFILENAME

  • PATHFILENAME is the physical name defined in the FILE-CONTROL Paragraph of the INPUT-OUTPUT Section.
  • PATHFILENAME can be the path to reach the file on a drive.
Example
    CY_PATH=MYFILE
Checks all files with prefix MYFILE, for example: MYFILE01, MYFILE02

Example
    CY_PATH=\TEMP\MYFILE*
Checks all files within path \TEMP with the prefix"MYFILE.

CY_STR

This entry creates one or more encrypted files and it verifies that the name of the file contains a specific string.

Syntax

CY_STR=FILENAME
  • FILENAME can be the physical name defined in the FILE-CONTROL Paragraph of the INPUT-OUTPUT Section.
Example
    CY_STR=MYFILE
Checks all files with the prefix "MYFILE" in any path, for example \TEMP\MYFILE01, \TMP\MYFILE02, ALLMYFILE

You have to set these configuration variables before running ISMIGRATE. If you set them after running ISMIGRATE, you have to redo the migration.
