Does isCOBOL APS run on z/OS?

Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes

Question:

What products in isCOBOL run on z/OS?

Answer:

The JDK on z/OS is called "IBM SDK for z/OS Java Technology Edition", which you can download here.

The following isCOBOL products and features are implemented as pure Java classes with no dependencies on native libraries and can run on z/OS:
  • isCOBOL Compiler including the ISMIGRATE, ISCONFIG, and STREAM2WRK utilities
  • isCOBOL Runtime Framework (with the exception of calling native libraries)
  • isCOBOL Debugger
  • isCOBOL ESQL Generator
  • isCOBOL Database Bridge (EasyDB)
  • isCOBOL Server (thin client and client/server CALLs)
  • isCOBOL JISAM File System
  • isCOBOL Web Direct
The following products and features have not been ported to z/OS:
  • ctreeRTG
  • isCOBOL UDBC
  • Calling native libraries with the CALL verb, such as those implemented in other programming languages like assembler or C
We suggest using the platform independent installer on the z/OS instead of the standard installation.
This installer will install the cross-platform components without the native items.
You can find the platform independent setup on Veryant's website at https://support.veryant.com/support/signedin/software.php. Search for "noarch.tar.gz"
