Question Title Why do I get fatal error 5510 when using isCOBOL ISAM Server (c-treeACE)?

With iscobol.file.index=ctree or iscobol.ismigrate_output_file_index=ctree, I get permanent I/O error 30,5510.

This started happening recently. What changed?
How do I fix it?


An error such as "EXFS=[5510]" or "f-syserr=5510" indicates that the c-tree server is not running, there is a version mismatch between the c-tree client (ctree.dll/ and the server (ctsrvr.exe/, or that the client cannot connect to the server specified in the ctree.conf file. 

First, start or restart the c-tree server. If that does not resolve the problem then check to make sure that the versions match.

On Windows:

To check the version of the client, you can right-click on the ctree.dll that is first in your PATH and show the properties. Click on the "Details" tab and you should see something like "File version 9.0.10761.15083" 

To check the version of the server, you can right-click on the ctsrvr.exe and show the properties. Click on the "Details" tab and you should see something like "File version 9.0.10761.0" 

The first 3 parts of the version numbers must match. If they don't, e.g. you see 9.0.11199.15182 for the ctree.dll, then that explains the error 5510. 

To remedy this, you can use the latest isCOBOL ISAM Server from the download page. Or you can use a ctree.dll/ file from an earlier version of isCOBOL.
